Advocacy

I would like to take this opportunity to commend and thank our Chamber for its commitment to our concerns and urgent business issues. I recently contacted the Chamber regarding the City’s attempt to fast-track a zoning application to locate emergency shelter services to the Brier Park Industrial Park. The Chamber Board approved a motion to issue a letter to the City Council opposing the rezoning change from Highway Commercial to Direct Control. The Chamber made their position public and sent the letter to local and provincial elected representatives along with community leaders that were involved in these discussions to ensure they were aware of all background information and concerns. This all happened within two weeks.

As a result of the Chamber’s advocacy and support, coupled with the efforts of local businesses and residents, the Mustard Seed withdrew its rezoning application and committed to reevaluating the potential options for relocating the shelter. This is the type of support you can expect from our Chamber.
