Momentum Builds for New Brooks Multi-Sport Field Complex with Major Grant and Community Investment
The vision for a new outdoor multi-sport field complex at Brooks Junior High School continues to gain momentum following significant funding announcements that are helping bring the project closer to reality.
The Brooks Community Football (BCF) secured $1,489,594 through the Government of Alberta's Active Communities Initiative grant, providing a major boost toward construction of the new facility. Grasslands Public Schools is partnering with BCF on the project, which is targeted for completion in the fall of 2027.
Adding to that momentum, Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL) has donated $100,000 to support development of the complex. The contribution will fund the purchase and installation of a new state-of-the-art electronic scoreboard, enhancing the experience for athletes, spectators and community users.
The new facility will provide a provincial-calibre playing field for football, soccer, field lacrosse and rugby, serving students, youth and residents from across the City of Brooks and County of Newell. Plans for the complex also include dressing rooms, lighting, a sound system, public washrooms, a concession and grandstands.
Grasslands Public Schools is an active partner in the project, providing the land at the new Brooks Junior High School and securing architectural and civil engineering plans. The project has also received support from the City of Brooks and the County of Newell, alongside BCF's ongoing fundraising efforts.
" We can now confidently say this project is going to move forward, and we will begin to focus our efforts on the last portion of fundraising from local sponsors and businesses who would like to be a part of this incredible recreational addition to our community." Said Jaret Hofer, Brooks Junior High School principal and BCF joint fundraising chair.
Speaking about the CNRL donation, Jaret Hofer added that the company's commitment to the community will greatly enhance the athlete and spectator experience while participating in football, soccer and other athletic opportunities.
Grasslands Board Chair Pat Connor said the contribution is another example of the strong support local youth and community initiatives receive throughout the region.
Together, the provincial grant, municipal support, school district partnership, community fundraising efforts and CNRL's investment reflect a shared commitment to creating a premier recreation and athletic facility that will serve the region for years to come.
