Rehabilitation and Employment for Developing Independence (REDI) Enterprises Society, better known as REDI Enterprises Society is a nonprofit charity, in operation for over 70 years. Founded in 1952, REDI exists to assist individuals to attain respect, opportunity and responsibility and is dedicated to supporting individuals and families of individuals who qualify for Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) Program funding. Support is offered through REDIlives, REDIconnects, REDIworks, and Brain Injury Relearning Service. Further, programming and service delivery centers on person centered planning, stakeholder involvement and a team-based approach for support and planning. Each year REDI provides services to more than 400 individuals across a complex variety of programs and services funded by various government and non-governmental sources. REDI is proudly located across Southeastern Alberta serving rural and municipal communities, with offices in Medicine Hat, Brooks, Lethbridge, and Calgary.

REDI has direct experience in providing services under Disability Services contracts, and has many years of experience in providing the following services:

  • Home Living Support began providing residential services in 1985, and now provides residential supports at fifteen locations in Medicine Hat, five locations in Brooks, and one in Calgary serving.

  •  Employment Support has been a cornerstone of REDI services since 1952. In 2000, the decision was made to close the sheltered workshop and move to a community inclusion model of employment. Currently REDI provides employment services to over 95 individuals (12 with complex needs) and over 40 employers in the community.

  • Community Access Support is a foundational service at REDI since 1952 supports more than 132 individuals (12 with complex needs) in the community with a variety of innovative programs and services.

  • Brain Injury Relearning Services was established to provide cognitive and physical rehabilitation. BIRS offers a range of services to people in their homes and communities across the Southern Region of Alberta. Supports include helping to navigate systems, accessing resources, rebuilding cognitive skills, and the development of compensatory systems.

  • Complex Care Support REDI holds CET Complex Support Needs Tier II designation and has extensive experience with individuals who have complex medical and behavioural needs. Currently supporting 32 individuals who are considered complex.

Finally, REDI’s various commercial operations, The REDI Bottle Depot, and Commercial Shedding services (SHREDI) generate revenue for the agency to help defray the costs of administration and assist in supporting services not eligible for funding from government.

REDI is an active member of the Alberta Council of Disability Services (ACDS), the South Region Council of Disability Services (SRCDS), the Alberta Disability Services Worker Association (ADWA), the Canadian Association for Supported Employment (CASE), the Medicine Hat and District Chamber of Commerce, and the Brooks and District Chamber of Commerce.
