Pay Grid:    $41,600-$49,920 Annually

What qualifications are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following: 

 

 

Education/Certifications/Credentials/Professional Registration 

  • Post-secondary education in CYC, ECE, SLWK, Education or in a related field 

  • Child Care certification Level 2 or 3 required 

  • Standard Child Care First Aid with CPR Level C 

  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in a management role in an organization of similar size and complexity preferred.  

  • Child Intervention Check 

  • Evidence of a clear Police Information Check (with Vulnerable Sector Search if applicable), within the last six months   

  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a class 07 automobile insurance coverage business use (or pleasure with occasional business use) and a minimum of $2,000,000 in liability coverage. 

 

Knowledge & Skills 

  • Experience in human resource functions (recruitment, hiring, progressive coaching, termination) 

  • Working with children in a childcare environment age 5-12 

  • Ability to fluently use the entire MS Office suite. 

  • Ability to act professionally in all situations, representing the YMCA according to its core values. 

  • Able to deal with difficult situations and complaints with confidence. 

  • Excellent customer services, organization, and time management skills 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Ability to manage multiple staff at various sites throughout the community. 

  • Excellent interpersonal and Leadership skills 

  • Self-motivated with the ability to direct personal performance to achieve desired results without constant direct supervision. 

  • Knowledge of Alberta Child Care Act and Regulations 

 

What does this role look like at the YMCA of Medicine Hat?  

This position is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of multiple Before & After School Care program sites, as well as being in ratio as required. This position will also assist the Before and After School Site Manager in ensuring the success of all the Association’s Before and After School programs, situated at multiple sites throughout Medicine Hat and surrounding areas.  

 

 

 

The responsibilities and duties of this role will include but is not limited to: 

 

Customer Service 

  • Provide professional development opportunities (external and internal) for educators at all sites. 

  • Encourage opportunities for leadership within the Site Leads role. 

  • Hold monthly Site Lead & Educator-level staff meetings that encourage relationship building.  

  • Ensure Educators are provided with a thorough orientation to their position and work site(s) 

  • Ensure the Site Leads and Educators are trained in Healthy Child Development at each assigned site. 

  • Attend all YMCA staff meetings as required. 

  • Attend/plan Parent Engagement Meetings, taking a lead role as needed. 

  • Work collaboratively with Before and After School Site Manager to recruit and hire all Educators as required by program.

Teamwork 

  • Work effectively within the Child Care team, contributing to its overall success by:  

  • Promoting the YMCA’s annual Strong Kids Campaign  

  • Promoting and/or attending YMCA events  

  • Contributing to a positive and healthy workplace culture  

  • Other duties to assist the team, as assigned.  

  • Provide coverage for Before and After School Site Manager absences, ensuring that all planned vacation and leaves do not overlap. 

  • Ensure to schedule Site Leads and Educators appropriate coverage for their vacation and/or leaves. 

  • Assist in other YMCA camp programming as needed. 

 

SAM/Place to Connect Standards: 

  • Achieve all quality standards and targets established under YMCA best practices and the YMCA’s SAM 2.1 program.  

  • General cleaning as required around the facility. 

  • Ensuring all staff are aware of SAM 2.1 standards, and work with them to create a culture of excellence in adherence to guidelines and expectations outlined by the SAM 2.1 manual. 

  • Act as a Place to Connect Champion, ensuring the curriculum is effectively implemented in each assigned site. 

  • Attend all core trainings on curriculum. 

  • Support Site Leads at assigned sites in completing monthly checklists as required. 

  • Ensure Site Leads at assigned sites are completing weekly observations on play partnering, programming and classroom environment. 

  • Review and ensure Play in Action standards are met. 

  • Responsible for participation in annual YMCA Play in Action audit and achieving minimum score of 85% in assigned sites. 

  • Ensure Site Leads and Educators attend core trainings; act as a mentor for Site Leads and Educators through role modelling curriculum standards at all times. 

 

Interpersonal/Communication Skills 

  • Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, managers, and the senior leadership team. 

  • Ensure workplace conflicts are resolved quickly, following YMCA policies and procedures. 

  • Ensure all assigned sites are correctly and consistently using the Avocado Engage app. 

  • Respond to emails and phone calls within a 24-hour period. 

  • Travel to each assigned site regularly and have a visible presence to staff, children and parents. 

  • Provide support to each Site Lead to ensure their success in the role and the success of the Program in each site. 

  • Liaise with Family Support Worker to connect any parents at sites who would like his/her services. 

  • Performance management of all Site Leads and Educators with assistance from the Before and After School Site Manager, including annual evaluations and progressive coaching, if needed 

  • Act as first point of contact for school administration regarding any questions, concerns or issues about the site/program. 

Quality of Work 

  • Ensure the Site Leads are including Healthy Child Development concepts in program planning. 

  • Monthly reports and stats submitted to Before and After School Site Manager 

  • Ensure all program forms and manuals are up-to-date and available at all locations. 

  • Seek out personal professional development opportunities. 

  • Ensure all invoices for the program are submitted to the Before and After School Site Manager on a timely basis. 

  • Complete NSF follow ups and online claim forms. 

  • Ensure timecards are approved correctly in payroll system before deadline. 

  • Ensure site training manuals are kept up to date. 

  • Plan and implement licensed childcare seasonal and summer day camp. 

  • Assist the Before and After School Site Manager in ensuring Government of Alberta subsidy for seasonal and summer camp program is as seamless as possible. 

 

Compliance with Legislation and YMCA Policies and Procedures 

  • Adherence to the following at all times: 

  • YMCA Child Protection and Operational Policies and Procedures  

  • Public health and safety regulations 

  • Occupational Health and Safety 

  • Ensuring that licensing regulations are always maintained in all assigned sites.  

  • Participate/supervise in licensing visits/annual reviews at all assigned sites, completing all necessary paperwork as required. 

  • Resolve areas of non-compliance in all assigned sites immediately 

  • Report all critical incidents at assigned sites within 24 hours. 

  • Review all licensing standards on a quarterly basis to remain up to date on any changes and advise Before and After School Site Manager of any impact to the program. 

  • Keep Before and After School Site Manager apprised of all issues at assigned sites related to licensing. 

  • Review policies at all assigned sites on a monthly, rotating basis (includes all YMCA of Medicine Hat Policies & Procedures, including Child Protection and Health & Safety) 

 

 

Work Environment and Physical Demands 

  • Work in loud noisy environment 

  • May be going from standing to seating positions, from standing to kneeling positions, from kneeling to standing positions, from seating to standing positions for most of the working day, there will be walking throughout the day. 

  • May lift or move items up to 50 lbs. including children. 

  • May be exposed to all weather conditions while working outside. 

  • May be exposed to children or adults who may not be vaccinated. 

  • May be exposed to verbal/physical abuse from external and internal clients.
