OPENING RECEPTION: April 10th, 2024 @ 7PM EXHIBITION DATES: March 2nd - April 27th, 2024 LOCATION: Yuill Family Gallery @ Medalta About the Artist: Born and raised in Medicine Hat, Alberta, James Marshall has left an impact on the artistic and historical communities of the region. From the intricacies of operating a print shop to the exhilaration of learning to fly, Marshall's life tells a story of experiences that bring life into his artistic expression. Throughout his art career he seamlessly transitions from raising a family, flying and scuba diving, launching Grassroots Studio while mastering the clay medium as an art form. Marshall's iconic brick murals were born from a fusion of his experience working at The I-XL Brick Manufacturing Company and mastering the clay medium as an art form during this same period at I-XL in the 1970s. Marshall's drawings have graced the walls of the Glenbow Museum in Calgary, showcasing his body of work of finely detailed pen and ink drawings with buildings ranging from simple rural structures to complex urban landscapes. The 1980s, a decade that witnessed his passion for preserving historical sites, is recognized through his intricate drawings of historic buildings. Today, Jim Marshall's artistic legacy shines brightly with an impressive installation of 251 commissioned brick murals throughout the world, each telling a unique story and preserving the essence of his extraordinary journey.
